Christie’s Furnishing Company was founded by Archibald Christie, Russell Street Hastings in 1914. Early/mid 1930’s Gordon Christie was given the mantle to develop a flooring adjunct business. The business grew rapidly throughout NZ carrying out works for hospitals, cinemas, breweries/hotels and government projects. The "great exhibition" in 1938 was the catalyst to move the floor covering base to Wellington. Brian Christie joined the company in 1962, taking over the management role in 1972 and full ownership in 1979. In 1972 a residential business was re-launched and, together with the commercial activity continues today.
